Israeli Lawmaker's Shocking Statement: Defends Sexual Violence Against Palestinian Prisoners as 'Legitimate'"

UN agencies and human rights organizations have all alleged abuse of Palestinians in Israeli detention facilities

In a dramatic escalation of unrest, far-right Israeli nationalists launched a bold assault on two military bases where their fury was ignited by the detention of nine Israel Defense Forces, who are under suspicion for the brutal rape and abuse of a Palestinian detainee.

The victim's condition was so severe that he had to be hospitalized.

The soldiers are currently being held at the Beit Lid base, where rioters have gathered in a bid to either force their release or express their solidarity.

Nati Rom, the lawyer representing three of the soldiers, revealed to the press that the accusations involve “acts of sodomy.”

According to the Associated Press, Rom is affiliated with Honenu, a nationalist legal organization dedicated to defending Israeli soldiers and civilians who face legal challenges related to incidents of violence with Palestinians.

During a meeting of lawmakers on Monday, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party Hanoch Milwidsky defended the rape and abuse of Palestinian prisoners.

In a heated outburst, the lawmaker argued that any actions against "terrorists" in custody were justified, despite colleagues' concerns about the alleged misconduct.

"(Even) to insert a stick in a person's rectum, is that legitimate?" asked Ahmad Tibi, a Palestinian lawmaker during the meeting.

"Yes! If he is a Nukhba everything is legitimate to do to him," screamed Milwidsky back.

Evidence Suggests Palestinian Prisoners Beaten, Urinated On, and Mauled by Dogs

A United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) report revealed that physical, sexual, and psychological abuse is a common experience for the thousands of prisoners held by the Israeli military.

The findings described prisoners being beaten while lying on thin mattresses over rubble, left without food, water, or toilet access for hours, and restrained with plastic ties. The report also noted that some detainees were confined in cages and attacked by dogs, with several released prisoners, including a child, showing dog bite injuries.

The questioning of soldiers accused of abuse—a rare move by Israel during an active conflict—has ignited fierce backlash from far-right Israelis, including several top government officials.

“I recommend the defense minister, the IDF chief, and the military authorities to back the fighters and learn from the prison service – light treatment of terrorists is over. Soldiers need to have our full support,” said Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

IDF’s Desperate Attempt to Shield From International Criminal Court

Palestinian officials are calling for an international investigation into alleged crimes against detainees. Mustafa Barghouti, a Palestinian Legislative Council member, accused the IDF of shielding itself from the International Criminal Court with its inquiry, which he claimed still fails to satisfy "Israeli fascists."

Meanwhile, Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Prisoners Club and a former minister urged the UN to create a special committee to examine the treatment of Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli analyst Ben-Ephraim also weighed in on the situation stating on social media that the Israeli government has been lying by dismissing torture allegations as 'propaganda' and is only taking action now because "pressure from the UK, ICC, and ICJ has become too great to ignore."

“I feel stupid and ashamed. Today, I realized how much I was lied to. By my country. By my friends. By my media. Today, many of the people I talked to who denied these allegations admitted they were true. And the worst part? None of this is coming to light because the IDF and government have changed their hearts about it. It's coming out because the pressure from the UK, ICC and ICJ was getting too great to ignore.

This would get Netanyahu, Gallant and the Chief of Staff in serious trouble. So they finally said the truth. That Israel is routinely torturing inmates. That sexual abuse is fairly common there. That people have been tortured to death,” Ephraim tweeted.
