AMT sat down with children’s author, Sana Ghaznavi, about her activity books for young Muslim children. From a young age, she was passionate about arts and crafts. She combined her love of Islam and doing arts and crafts with her children to create the activity books. As an adult, her passion is donating the money from her books to charitable organizations.

AMT: What inspired you to write these books for children?

SG: After becoming a mother and teaching my kids about Islam and answering their curious and sometimes difficult questions inspired me to write these books.

AMT: How important do you think these books are?

SG: These books are extremely important for children because what they learn in childhood stays with them for the rest of their lives. Like a young tree that needs ample nourishment and sunlight, our children also need spiritual nutrition and character-building training and what better blueprint for such rearing than divine guidance and the Prophetic example? It is only with focused and inspiring examples found in our great and rich Islamic tradition that they can navigate the dizzying challenges of the modern world and become productive, positive and inspiring role models themselves. Much like the young sapling that turns into a strong, fruitful and shady tree and becomes a source of life, prosperity and welfare for society at large, I also aim for the teachings I propagate in my books to raise strong, conscientious and positive Muslims.

AMT: What was the process of writing these books like?

SG: It was definitely challenging to simplify deep spiritual and religious themes and teachings into simple language and activities for children. However, I couldn’t resist the chance to share something so valuable that can help children understand, inspire and appreciate the Islamic faith. Ultimately, it has been a very rewarding experience and I am grateful to God for the opportunity.

AMT: What can kids and parents expect from your books?

SG: My goal is to blend learning with fun and bolster Islamic knowledge in our young Muslims. These books are very thoughtfully prepared and designed and carefully proofread to ensure they are of high quality. They are also written from the perspective of parents and tested and approved by children who have provided important feedback throughout the preparation process.
