The University of Texas at Dallas community is reeling from the devastating news of the death of sophomore Andrew Zhou Li, 20, who had gone missing in late February.

Andrew was last seen in the evening at his on-campus apartment on Saturday, Feb. 24. His mother, Ai Ping Zhou, who resides in Houston, grew increasingly concerned after her attempts to reach him went unanswered. She had last spoken with Andrew on Thursday, a brief conversation during which he mentioned being in the library studying for exams.

As Saturday rolled around and Andrew remained unresponsive, Zhou's worry transformed into panic. With no signs of her son, she made the heart-wrenching decision to drive from Houston to the university in search of him.

Upon arrival, she discovered that Andrew's whereabouts were still unknown, prompting campus authorities to initiate a search effort.

Despite their best efforts, Andrew's body was discovered off-campus under DART tracks near Renner Road. The news sent shockwaves through the UT Dallas community, leaving many grappling with grief and unanswered questions.

The police officials said, “We all grieve with Andrew’s family and friends at this sorrowful outcome. We offer our sincere condolences to all who knew him.”

The University of Texas at Dallas Police Department, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, launched an investigation into Andrew's death. While they have not identified any signs of foul play, the exact cause of death remains undetermined pending toxicology results.

In a statement to the university community, Dr. Gene Fitch, Vice President for Student Affairs, expressed condolences to Andrew's family and friends. He acknowledged the profound impact of Andrew's passing, emphasizing the need for unity and support during this difficult time.

As the community mourns the loss of Andrew Zhou Li, preparations are underway for the annual Comets Remember Ceremony on March 19, where he will be honored alongside other students who have passed away during the academic year.
