Jaafar will be accompanied by several prominent stars in the upcoming film, among them Oscar nominees Colman Domingo, Nia Long and Miles Teller
In the first glimpse of the upcoming biopic "Michael," Jaafar Jackson channels the iconic legacy of his famous uncle, Michael Jackson, bearing a striking resemblance to the King of Pop.
Jaafar, aged 27, is sporting a recognizable look from the 1990s era of Michael Jackson: a white button-up shirt layered over a white V-neck, paired with black pants, while his hair is tied back in a low ponytail as he performs onstage.
Photographer Kevin Mazur, who extensively documented Michael Jackson's career and rehearsals for his "This Is It" tour, captured the iconic "Man in the Mirror" look which became popular during Jackson's Dangerous Tour from 1992-93.
"When I arrived for my first day on the set of this movie, I was so excited – it was like the first time I went on tour to shoot Michael Jackson," Mazur stated. "The way he looks and acts, his mannerisms, everything — he's Michael Jackson. For anyone who didn’t have the chance to see Michael perform live during his lifetime — this is how it was.”
"With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael. He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could,” producer Graham King said.
The cast also features Oscar nominee Colman Domingo portraying father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as mother Katherine Jackson, Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael, and Miles Teller as lawyer John Branca.
Director Antoine Fuqua commented, "We have gathered an extraordinary team of artists for this project. The resemblance is striking. It's Michael's spirit that shines through in a magical manner. You have to witness it to believe it."
“Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” said Katherine Jackson, mother of Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson transcended mere stardom to become a cultural phenomenon. Beyond his groundbreaking music and mesmerizing dance moves, Jackson's legacy is a tapestry woven with innovation, controversy, and unparalleled influence.
Throughout his extensive career, he achieved a remarkable feat with 13 singles topping the Billboard Hot 100 Songs chart. Initially rising to fame as part of the Jackson 5, four of their tracks also claimed the coveted No. 1 spot.
On June 25, 2009, at the age of 50, Jackson tragically passed away before launching his comeback tour "This Is It."
"Michael" will be released in theaters on April 18, 2025.
