During the final episode of “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” Hasan made a candid announcement, stating, "I've decided to look for a new challenge. This is not just my final episode; it's my last day at MSNBC."

The network had earlier disclosed in November that Hasan would lose his weekly show after three years but would continue as an analyst and fill-in anchor, a decision that prompted a petition campaign by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar expressed her concern, labeling the cancellation as "deeply troubling amid a rampant rise of anti-Muslim bigotry and suppression of Muslim voices."

When contacted for a statement on Hasan's departure, an MSNBC spokeswoman simply stated that the network had no comment.

Hasan's final show featured an interview with Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photographer, shedding light on the perilous conditions faced while working in Gaza during Israeli military operations.

Hasan also drew attention to a report on X (formerly Twitter) about Palestinian children losing limbs, accompanied by a poignant message questioning the acceptance of such human suffering.

Reflecting on his time at MSNBC, Hasan shared with viewers, "I am so, so proud of what we've achieved on this show on this network." However, he remained tight-lipped about his future plans, adding, "As I say: new year, new plans."

To replace Hasan, MSNBC has decided to extend the weekend hours of Ayman Mohyeldin, another Muslim journalist. This move comes as MSNBC faced backlash for canceling Hasan's show, with concerns raised by members of Congress and viewers alike.

As Hasan concluded his tenure with MSNBC, various voices in the news media shared their thoughts on his departure. Here's what some had to express about the end of his association with the network.

The decision is perceived by some as poorly timed, given Hasan's vocal stance on human rights issues, particularly regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The incident underscores broader discussions about free expression, media diversity, and the challenges faced by journalists who bring attention to sensitive global issues.
